Week 12 – Inserting a Background, and using Charts in Excel.

What we are learning: Students learn how to insert a background, and how to use the different charts in Microsoft Excel.

How to Navigate to Excel: Start- All Programs- Microsoft Office- Microsoft Excel.

Challenge: Students will use Page Layout, and insert a Background into Microsoft Excel. Then they will create a list of foods for a party, they will enter data and create a chart.

Vocabulary words: Spreadsheets, Cells, Rows, Columns,Labels,Values.

Verse of the week: ” Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord”.  Colossians 3:20


Week 11, Inserting and Editing pictures in Excel

What we are learning: How to insert, and manipulate pictures in Excel and how to edit pictures along with text.

How to navigate to Excel: Start – All Programs – Microsoft Office – Microsoft Excel.

Challenge: Create a list of ten fruits in Excel.  Use the Insert Clipart Button to add a picture of each fruit . Resize the the text and the pictures so the picture is next to the word.

Vocabulary: Clipart.

Week 10- Using Unhide, Fill, and AutoSum in Excel

What we are learning: Using the Unhide option , and Paint Fill to color Columns, and using the AutoSum button to quickly add data in Excel.

Navigate to Excel: Start – All Programs- Microsoft Office- Microsoft Excel.

Vocabulary: Automatic, Sum

Challenge: Create a list with ten friends’ names in one column.  Besides each friend, include the following information: How many brothers do they have? How many sisters do they have? How many pets? and How many schools have they attended? Total each column using AutoSum.

What we are learning: Adding and Removing Rows and Columns in Microsoft Excel.

Navigate to Excel: Start-All Programs-Microsoft Office Microsoft Excel.

Vocabulary: Rows and Columns… Rows are left to right , like the rows of seats in a movie theatre. Columns are up and down, like columns on a building.

Challenge: Pretend you are planning your birthday party and you are making a list of names and addresses of each person you plan to invite. Create the following columns: Last name, First name, Address, City, State, Zip code. After completing that list, add a column for the phone number before the address. Then, hide the column with the phone numbers.
