Microsoft WordWhat we are Learning: Adding and Formatting Text in Microsoft Word

How to Navigate to Word: Start – All Programs – Microsoft Office – Microsoft Word

Tools we Used: Bold, Italics, Underline, Line Spacing, Font Size, Font Color, Highlighter, Font Style

Challenge: Use Microsoft Word to write a letter to someone in your family.  Use each tool to highlight an important point. Use Bold, Italics, and Underline. Change the font color and style. Increase the line spacing. Print the letter and give it to your family member.


Week 5 – Pre-K through First Grade

Examples: StartUp, Shut Down, Log in, Log Off, Cleaning Computers, Properly Opening and Closing CD ROM, Properly inserting and removing peripherals, Changing Volume, Applying Mute

Tools we Used: On/Off Buttons, CTL-ALT-DEL, Start Menu, Log-Off, Shut Down

Challenge: Find the On-Off Buttons on your home computer.  Start-Up and Shut Down your computer. Does it require a login? Do you know your password? Hold a CD properly and insert it into the CD Drive. Insert and remove other peripherals, such as the mouse, keyboard or game stick. Turn volume up or down on your computer.


Week 4 – All Grades

Vocabulary: USB Port, Charger, Internet Cord, Flash Drive, Joystick, Mouse, CD ROM, DVD ROM, Headphones, Microphone, Digital Camera

Practice at Home: Identify your USB Ports and Internet Cables. If you do not have a cable, do you have wireless access to the Internet? Find peripherals your parents use, such as a digital camera, Webcam, Flash Drive, Headphones or Microphone. Do you have a CD player or DVD player on your computer? Do you have speakers? Are they external or internal? Do you have a mouse? Is it connected through a USB port? Is it wireless?


Week 3 – 2nd Through 4th Grade

How to Make Changes to a Folder: Right-click on the Folder to select “Rename” or “Delete” or “Copy”

Places to Store Files: C:/ Drive, My Documents, Desktop, Flash Drive

Challenge: Create a folder in My Documents and name it “Practice”. Create 2 Painting and Save them in your folder. Rename your folder “My Paintings”. Move Your Folder to the Desktop.

How to Create a Folder: Right-click and Choose New Folder

Storage Devices: Hard Drive, CD, DVD, Flash Drive

Challenge: Create one folder on your Desktop (or on a Flash Drive) at home. Name it “School Work.” Within that folder, create folders for each subject. Keep your PowerPoint Presentations, Word Documents and Reports in the correct folders all year.
