What we are learning: introduction to Google SketchUp 8. We are learning how to design a basic 3D building using the many tools in Google SketchUp.

How to navigate to Google SketchUp: Go to SketchUp icon on desk top- Choose templates -Choose Architectural Design feet and inches-Press Start.

Challenge: Students will be shown how to use the rectangle, circle, line, push/pull, orbit, zoom, and pan tools in order to design a 3D building in Google SketchUp. They will save it to their desk top which will allow them to continue adding to the building, as well as adding furniture and landscaping next week.

This week in Computer Class, we will be taking the end of the year “STAR” Tests.  This test was  giving at the beginning of the year to see where students were, as far as their reading level.  They were assigned a color indicating which books they should check out when they go to the Media Center.  They will take the “STAR” test to see how much they have advanced since taking the test at the beginning of the year.

What we are learning: How to edit movies by changing background colors, as well as adding titles, captions, and credits to your movies.

How to Navigate to Moviemaker: Start- All Programs- Windows Live Moviemaker.

Challenge: Students will open their previously saved movie, and edit the movie by adding a background color to their text boxes.  They will also change the size of their movie pictures, add visual effects, and adjust music to start, fade in/out at specific times in their movie. They will then add titles, captions, and credits to their finished movie.

How to Navigate to Moviemaker: Start- All Programs- Windows live Moviemaker.

Challenge: Students will open saved Moviemaker project, and go to animations to add different transitions. They will also add music and text to their movie.

How to Navigate to the program: Start- All Programs – Windows Moviemaker

Vocabulary: Import.

Challenge: Open Windows Moviemaker and click File-Import.  Locate the Easter pictures located in a picture folder on your computer.  Choose the pictures that you would like to use in a slide show, and select import. Hold CTRL to import more than one picture at a time.

What we are learning: Students learn how to insert a background, and how to use the different charts in Microsoft Excel.

How to Navigate to Excel: Start- All Programs- Microsoft Office- Microsoft Excel.

Challenge: Students will use Page Layout, and insert a Background into Microsoft Excel. Then they will create a list of foods for a party, they will enter data and create a chart.

Vocabulary words: Spreadsheets, Cells, Rows, Columns,Labels,Values.

What we are learning: How to insert, and manipulate pictures in Excel and how to edit pictures along with text.

How to navigate to Excel: Start – All Programs – Microsoft Office – Microsoft Excel.

Challenge: Create a list of ten fruits in Excel.  Use the Insert Clipart Button to add a picture of each fruit . Resize the the text and the pictures so the picture is next to the word.

Vocabulary: Clipart.

What we are learning: Using the Unhide option , and Paint Fill to color Columns, and using the AutoSum button to quickly add data in Excel.

Vocabulary: Automatic, Sum

Challenge: Create a list with ten friends’ names in one column.  Besides each friend, include the following information: How many brothers do they have? How many sisters do they have? How many pets? and How many schools have they attended? Total each column using AutoSum.

What we are learning: Adding and Removing Rows and Columns in Microsoft Excel.

Navigate to Excel: Start-All Programs-Microsoft Office Microsoft Excel.

Vocabulary: Rows and Columns… Rows are left to right , like the rows of seats in a movie theatre. Columns are up and down, like columns on a building.

Challenge: Pretend you are planning your birthday party and you are making a list of names and addresses of each person you plan to invite. Create the following columns: Last name, First name, Address, City, State, Zip code. After completing that list, add a column for the phone number before the address. Then, hide the column with the phone numbers.

When to Use Excel: Excel is used for Graphing, Lists, Tables and spreadsheets.

Challenge: In first column type first name of a family member.  In next column type the last name. In last column type age. Find the average age for the people in your family.
